Frome RFC

Salisbury rfc v Frome RFC

Report by Trevor Osborne

Frome travelled to Wiltshire on Saturday to face Salisbury RFC hoping to build on the previous week's narrow defeat.

Frome received the ball from the kick off and looked to build the phases but the home side stripped the ball and worked the ball out wide to score the first points out wide.

Frome looked to hit back immediately and put pressure on the home defense with Forwards Murray White and Jack carter carrying hard, however a misplaced pass in midfield was pounced on by Salisbury and in their attempts to recover Frome were penalised for holding on and Salisbury converted the penalty for an 8 point lead.

Continuing to apply pressure on the home defence, Frome eventually found the space, with Ethan White crashing through for Fromes first points of the day.

Salisbury now had two players in the sin bin due to persistent offences, which No.8 Alex Mallon and Second Row, James Howard took full advantage of making valuable yards. A good set of passing saw the ball worked wide for Centre Cory Plumridge to score an unconverted try out wide to give Frome the lead.

With time running out on the clock a Frome indiscretion at the breakdown allowed the home side to regain territory and from the ensuing line out salisbury were able to crash over for a converted try and take a 15-10 lead at half time.

The home side started the second half strongly and Frome’s indiscipline presented the home kicker with the opportunity to increase their lead.

Frome then came back into the game and after a break by debutant Alfie Jones the ball was gathered by No.8 Mallon for a try, which was duly converted by Howard to reduce the lead to just one point.

Salisbury were utilising their big runners to positive effect, and with Frome’s frustration led to them being reduced to 13 men.

With the numerical advantage Salisbury were able to capitalise and found the space for two quick tries and a penalty, which further increased the home sides lead,  however Frome showed their true abilities when from a line out move White was bundled over from close range for the try bonus points.

Player of the Match was awarded to Scrum Half, Billy James.

Frome RFC Head Coach, Jonathan Dicker commented post match “In an ill disciplined game, we took a try bonus point from the game against a very tough Salisbury side to keep momentum going into next weeks fixture when we face Dorchester at home.”

Frome will look to get back to winning ways when they welcome Dorchester to The Lane on Saturday.
