Trowbridge RFC

Frome RFC II 19 - 42 Trowbridge RFC II

Report by Andy Vince

The Frome RFC 2nd XV welcomed local rivals Trowbridge RFC 2nd XV to The Lane on Saturday and it was a fond welcome to former player Connor McPherson, who was now running out for the visitors.

The first half didn’t start well for the home side, with only 3 mins on the clock Frome lost a their line out, which gave Trowbridge an attacking scrum which went wide and hit the ruck well providing a platform for their forwards to crash over. (0-5)

Then on 12 mins, Trowbridge were awarded an attacking scrum only 5 metres out, and got the shove on allowing their No.8 to touch down. (0-10)

Frome were under lots of pressure and some great tackling from Rowan Walton and two try saving tackles from Rob Sully and John Spencer to keep out the visitors.

But on 20 mins the pressure took its toll and Trowbridge worked the ball wide and again provided a good platform, the ball went blind and they crashed over. (0-17)

Frome eventually were able to get their hands on the ball, with Trowbridge showing why they are top of the table by keeping the ball out of Frome’s clutches for such long periods.

With Frome Centres Max Stickley and Archie Jones now starting to make ground, and Flankers Will Button and Garrie Webster just starting to get into the game. With the half nearing the end, Frome put Trowbridge under pressure on their own line and as the visitors kicked out from their own line, the kick only found winger Rob Sully who stepped his man and out paced the would be defence to score. Max Stickley added the extras (7-17)

HT: Frome RFC II 7 - 17 Trowbridge RFC II

It only took 5 mins of the second half and Trowbridge were at it again, going wide with their winger getting on the outside of the Frome defence to touch down (7-22)

Straight from kick off, Trowbridge’s Second Row knocked on, allowing Rob Sully to show some great footballing skills and controlled the ball over the line and touched down for his second try of the game. (12-22)

Frome then did the same from Trowbridges kick off and knocked on, providing Trowbridge with an attacking scrum.

Trowbridge attacked in the centres giving a miss match blind which Trowbridge took advantage off to score. (12-27)

Then on 55 mins a bit of skill from the Trowbridge winger who managed to touch down in the corner, under a lot of pressure from Winger Kyle Williamson. (12-32)

Frome then managed to get some good phases together and were starting to look good and had their best period of the game, with Rowan Walton running a great line to cut through the defence to go under the posts. Extras added by Max Stickley. (19-32)

Two more tries were added by Trowbridge to secure a score line of 19 - 42.

Player of the Match went to Will Button for being everywhere in attack and defence, a special mention to Winger, Rob Sully for his defence and his two tries which he took well.

Team Manager, Andy Vince commented

“A much better performance from the lads today, I asked for a response to last weeks game and I got it. Trowbridge showed why they are top of the league and were very clinical in the red zone."

The Frome RFC 2nd XV are next in league action on sat 7th December when they welcome Westbury RFC 1st XV to The Lane.

The large window of free weekends will certainly give the opportunity to rest some bodies as the side get ready to hit the next block of fixtures.
