Swanage & Wareham RFC 37 - 24 Frome RFC

Report by Trevor Osborne

Frome RFC were back in action at the weekend following a gap in league fixtures the previous week, hoping to. Continue their winning ways they knew a tough battle awaited them in Dorset.

The home side started strongly and two penalties gave them a 6 point lead early on.

However from the kick off Second Row, James Howard kicked the ball to the blind side and after the home defender had misjudged the kick Centre, Cory Plumridge gathered the ball and released Winger, Simon Finch to score in the corner.

The rest of the first half was evenly matched but Swanage & Wareham took advantage of their opportunities to score two converted tries and with another penalty on half time lead 23-5 at the break.

HT: Swanage & Wareham 23 - 05 Frome

Frome came out with purpose at the beginning of the second half and cut the deficit when Fly Half, Simon Westlake released Howard through a gap in the home defence for a try, which was duly converted by Full Back, Max Stickley.

Swanage increased their lead again when their mercurial Winger broke down the outside and beat several defenders to score under the posts.

Frome continued to press and with the back row of Alex Mallon, Matt Smith and Murray White combining well the chance was created for White to score.

Frome continued to press but a break up the middle by the home second row was judged to have been stopped illegally and a penalty try was awarded.

Frome then went through the phases and were awarded with a bonus point try for Murray White converted by Max Stickley.

A disappointing loss on the road but Frome kept up their record of scoring a bonus point in every game this season.
