Frome RFC

29 - 30

(HT 0-0)

Yeovil Rugby Club

The Frome RFC 2nd XV welcomed another recently relegated team to The Lane on Saturday when they hosted Yeovil RFC 1st XV, and after last week’s win over Avonvale, confidence was high heading into the game.

The opening minutes started evenly with both sides finding their feet into the game. Frome were led by Second Row Stuart Elliott who continued to make some barnstorming runs throughout, linking well with Fin Christenson and Dumo Ndlovu well.

Captain for the day, Stu Elliot was on the scoreboard first when an over thrown line out was caught and he charged forward to dive over the line, Fly half Max Stickley adding the extras.

A penalty in front of the posts would see Max Stickley add a further 3 points.

Yeovil continued to threaten with strong carries from their forwards, but the oppositions centres would be where their main attack came from, and it wasn't long until they crashed through to score.

Frome were caught napping when a penalty kick from Yeovil held up in the wind and the bounce fell into the visitors hands and they dotted down to score.

The backline were offering some great attacking sets, with Max Stickley at Fly Half orchestrating things well with Scrum Half Garrie Webster. Frome looked to move the ball wide when Darrell Thompson put in long pass that found Leo Hamblin who zig zagged his way through the defence to get to the half way line before offloading to Full Back John Spencer who fixed his opposite number before a pass to Flanker Rowan Walton who crashed over to score in the corner. The conversion going just wide.

Thompson was on the scoreboard next, when an attack inside the visitors half saw him step his way passed multiple defenders before reaching for the line to score.

Further scores from Yeovil put them ahead, until Fly Half Max Stickley found a gap to dart through a gap to reach out to score, converting his own try and Frome took the lead with 5mins remaining.

With Frome leading by 2pts with under 2mins remaining, Yeovil had another attack and used their Centres again to charge into the defensive line, much to the shock of the players the tackle was deemed to be high, and a penalty was awarded to Yeovil in front of the posts, the visitors Fly Half slotting the penalty kick to secure the game.
