Chard RFC Colts 17 - 27 Frome RFC Academy

On Sunday 13th October, Frome travelled to play Chard. With a minute on the clock, a good early kick from from Archie Pearn put Frome into the attacking third. Great early carries followed from Dom Evans and Kieran Stacey.
This was followed up by Harry Greenwood, who gathered loose ball ran deep into the opponents half. An eventual knock on stopped the attack.
Five minutes later, after more dominant carries, Henry Williams, playing at 10, mopped up ball well. Pearn ran in on a short line, darted in and out of five defenders to score the opening try for a 0-5 score.
After ten minutes, Chard hit back with, a try down the blind side, to draw the scores level.
Titas Beaven collected kick from full back, swerved past defenders before finding Pearn. Neo Davies collected the pass and fed Evans, to score. Williams hit extras.
With the score at 5-12, another great carry from Greenwood, Kimi Endicott and Charlie Stratford cleaned out the ruck. A box kick from Alfie Newbery followed, to put Frome deep into the opposing half.
The next ten minutes, saw the away sides defence tested. They cleared their lines, with a huge Williams kick.
Thirty minutes into the game, a great move from Frome. Newbery and Williams combined, then a great line from Sibley . The ball was moved out wide and Frome were narrowly denied a try.
After a mistake behind scrum, there was first up tackle from Newbery on the opposition 8. Davies gathered the loose ball and Pearn cleared.
In the final seconds of half, a dummy and offload from Newbery, Williams carried the ball, seemingly with three defenders on his back, before slipping the ball outside to Sibley, who selflessly passed to Stacey to score. For a 5-17 half time score.

The half started with early pressure from Frome. This led to a loss of control and yellow card for the home side.
Following repeated infringements by Chard. Pearn kicked deep, Newbery, took a quick tap and fed Sibley, who darted and offloaded to James Masters to score. Williams added the extra’s for a 5-24 score
A messy ten minutes followed, both sides saw defence on top. Chard were unable to fulfil a competent front row, so the game finished with uncontested scrums. Davies and Greenwood worked hard to twice hold the ball up and a whole team defensive effort followed. Again, Williams cleared the line.
Chard did eventually roll over for a try from close range.
Another yellow card followed, for denying a certain try. Frome surprised not to receive a penalty try, kicked the three points.
With the game becoming filled with incident and niggle, Chard went over again.
Finally with the clock deep in the red, Beaven gathered another long range kick and Frome were tackled short of the line. The game ended 17-27 in favour of the away side, who battled and played some excellent rugby with just 15 travelling players.
