Wimborne RFC Colts 12 - 44 Frome RFC Academy

With half the Academy squad getting the win away at Chard, the other half travelled to Wimborne knowing they had a lot to live up too.
The half started well with Frome winning a scrum against the head allowing fly half and captain for the day, Fin Van Gorph to make a break and feed centre Toby Cassidy who showed great pace to out sprint the defence and score with only 2mins on the clock. Kick missed. 0-5
On 10mins Frome won an attacking line out only to have the ball striped from them as they went over the line and the score was lost.
But then on 13 mins with some good phases being put together, with strong carries from Seb Smith, Ewan Cox and Rufus Phelps, the ball went wide getting to winger Will Ibbitson who scored in the corner. 0 - 10
On 15 mins Frome lost flanker Freddie Chalke to a head injury and Archie Coleman came into the centre and Toby Cassidy changed to the flank.
On 17 mins a good steal from Rufus Phelps set up Ewan Cox who carried well followed by Toby Cassidy, who was tackled just short of the line, which allowed scrum half Ollie Pole to snipe blind and reach out to touch down. 0 - 15
On 30 mins some great work from winger Jonas Mills gaining ground but Frome were starting to be guilty of giving away too many penalties just when they looked like scoring.
On 32 mins with Frome attacking again, Wimborne against the run of play managed to break out of their defence and got the ball wide to their winger who ran the length of the pitch to score.

Second half saw Cam Vince come on for Ollie Pole at Scrum half.
With the words of the coaches in their ears Frome started the half well, 2 mins in Frome attacked well Cam Vince fed Fin Van Gorph who glided through a gap and fed Will Ibbitson who made some good ground and had the mind to pass it inside to the supporting Brennan Doyle who held off a would be defender to touch down for the score. 5 - 20
On 43 mins Wimborne enjoyed some pressure of their own with Frome giving away lots of penalties which allowed Wimborne to move up the field and get their strike runners running at the Frome defence, with the Wimborne Fly half showing some quality. This eventually lead to Wimborne scoring under the posts. Kick made 12 - 20
On 51 mins with Seb Smith now jumping number two at the line out forced the Wimborne hooker to over throw which Rufus Phelps seized apon and with still some distance to go, showed strength and power to get to the line to score. 12 - 25.
Then on 55 mins Frome now showing the intensity they showed in the first half, a lovely sweeping move with great hands by Harrie Webster set Will Ibbitson free again but was tackled just short of the line, good pressure but the ball went scrappy but Rufus Phelps popped up and again showed great strength to get over the line. Kick was added by Fin Van Gorph. 12 - 32
On 60 mins prop Adam Hancock with a great steal at a ruck in Frome’s 22, Cam Vince put who else Rufus Phelps into a gap who then found Will Ibbitson who showed great pace to beat the defence and score. 12 - 39
On 65 mins Frome were found guilty of a high tackle in the red zone and Adam Hancock was awarded a yellow card.
Frome then had to soak up a prolonged amount of pressure from Wimborne with tackles flying in from all over the team.
Then on 70mins Archie Colman broke out of defence was now running free, finding Jonas Mills in support, he was tackled and scrum half Cam Vince got there quickly and spun it wide to Harry Webster who finished the move off well and scored.

Player of the Match was awarded to Rufus Phelps who was every where today, winning turn overs and scoring tries, but more importantly lead from the front with great tackles and strong carries.
