Frome RFC Match Report | 1st XV
Counties 1 Tribute Ale Southern South
Melksham 24 - 21 Frome
Frome RFC endured a frustrating afternoon on the road as they fell to a well-drilled Melksham side, despite making a positive start to the contest.
The visitors began brightly and enjoyed the lion’s share of territory and possession during the opening ten minutes, forcing Melksham onto the defensive. However, an unforced error followed by a lapse in discipline handed the hosts valuable field position, allowing them to gain a foothold in the match.
That pattern would continue throughout the afternoon, with Frome struggling to break down a resolute and organised Melksham defence. A combination of poor decision-making at key moments and ill-discipline proved costly, preventing the visitors from building sustained pressure and momentum.
Speaking after the match, Head Coach Garrie Webster reflected on the performance:
*”It was a tough day on the field. We started brightly and made Melksham defend for the first 10 minutes, but an unforced error and then ill-discipline gave them field position to attack.*
*”This was the theme of the day really. We were unable to break down a well-organised defence and a mix of poor decision-making and discipline ultimately cost us.*
*”Credit to Melksham, who were very well organised and put us under a lot of pressure in defence and in the scrum, which resulted in multiple penalties and yellow cards. It was a tough day, but there are lessons to be learned.”*
Frome will be looking to respond quickly this weekend as they return to The Lane, where they welcome old rivals Devizes RFC in what promises to be another fiercely contested encounter.
