On Saturday the Frome RFC 2nd XV we’re back on the road when they travelled to Melksham RFC 1st XV hoping time get back to winning ways after the previous weeks defeat.
The home side were quick out to settle and pinned Frome back into their own half with a series of good kicks, and with Frome struggling to get a foot hold in the game Melksham looked to push and threw everything at the visitors.
Frome stood firm until the 16th minute and the pressure told, and Melksham went wide catching the back line on their heels scoring in the corner.
Frome tried hard to make an impact but struggled at the break down losing out to some tenacious counter rucking by the home side.
However with 30 mins in Frome received a penalty in front of the posts, Captain Gordon Grieson pointed at the posts and Fly Half Ben Eley kicked the 3 points.
This spurred Frome on and started to move the ball away from contact better which lead to some good passages of play and some quality runs from No.8 Cameron Hastie and Flanker Grieson.
Vice Captain Owen Davis came off for some treatment In the run up to half time which saw young Alex Twigger join the play. The half ended with Melksham going in at the break 5-3 up with all to play for.
Unfortunately it was the home side who started the better as Melksham went wide again and took advantage of some suspect tackling to score in the corner with only 2 mins of the half gone. Dan Chaventre came on as a replacement for Loukas Ives in the front shortly after.
On 50 mins Frome lost Fly Half Eley and was replaced by Lewis Parfoot, who managed to make an impact straight away pushing the team forward.
The Front Row has another reshuffle when Hooker Dom Granville came off due to injury with Ives returning to the field.
Frome then had their best period of the game, piling on the pressure, eventually Inside Centre Chris Burgess using all his experience to crash over in the corner.
Owen Davies returned to the field replacing Dean Marshall. Frome then pushed hard for the win, but in doing so started to make mistakes as they tried to force a way through.
Melksham seized the opportunity scoring with only 10 mins to go making it 15 - 8.
Frome again tried to push for that score that would have at least gained the draw, but again Melksham jumped on a mistake and scored in the last minute to gain the bonus point win.
