The Frome RFC 2nd XV welcomed Sutton Benger RFC 1st XV to the ‘Lane’ on Saturday, and it started off fairly even with both sides evenly matched and trying to find a way through.
On 11 minutes it was the away side that managed to find the first score, going wide with the Winger showing some great speed and footwork to cross over the line.
Frome were then able to pile on the pressure which caused the visitors to make mistakes, forcing them back towards their own line. This lead to a penalty on 21 minutes which Fly Half Ben Eley stepped up and put through the posts.
Frome were then able to pile on the pressure which caused the visitors to make mistakes, forcing them back towards their own line. This lead to a penalty on 21 minutes which Fly Half Ben Eley stepped up and put through the posts.
This only spurred on the visitors who straight from the kick off hit back making the most of some very weak tackling in midfield allowing the visitors to crash over the line for another score.
Frome came back at the visitors again in , what turned out to be a topsy turvy game, the Forwards managed to get a string of multiple phases together, allowing Eley the time to execute a perfectly placed cross-field kick to Winger Ben Tiley who caught to touch down in the corner.
The Visitors were able to add to their tally when Frome gave away a penalty in front of the posts which was duly kicked to take the score to 8-13.
The Frome forwards desperately tried to get the home side back in the match with the line out working well, which saw Hooker Phil Clarke falling just short of the line.
Frome were dealt a blow with the end of the half closing in, when Second Row Owen Davies was given a yellow card, following a high tackle.
The start of the second half didn’t go to plan for Frome as they were desperately trying to get a foothold in the game. The referee awarding another penalty to the visitors, this time Scrum Half Liam Sheldon being issued a yellow card for a high tackle.
Then on 53 minutes the home sides troubles continued as they lost Fullback Toby Reilly to injury, Captain Gordon Grierson having time step into the backline.
Frome still managed to produce some great scrummaging pushing the visitors back on multiple occasions.
The line out continued to work well and from a line out on the visitors 22 metre line, Frome launched an attack which, with some great support play from man of the match Chris Burgess, he was able to touch down under the posts, to bring the scores level at 13 all.
With tails up the game was now anyones to win, and with 75 mins gone, Frome were awarded a penalty in range and Eley kicked the 3 points. 16 - 13.
With the home side thinking they’d done enough to see out the game, a lapse in concentration at the kick off, saw Frome giving away a penalty. From the line out the visitors did their best work and managed to work several phases together and with only a few seconds left on the clock crashed over wide to win the game.
