Minety RFC 3 - 8 Frome RFC II
This was always going to be a tight match with Minety 1st XV conceding the least amount of points at home and Frome RFC 2nd XV likewise away.
Frome started kicking down the slope and both packs matched up together, then on ten minutes Inside Centre Matt Warnock put in a dominant hit on Minety’s Prop, which would set the defensive tone. With the team lifted, the visitors put in several phases getting in behind the Minety defence, before passing the ball out wide and Full Back, Ben Eley managing to get the ball down and score the try.
The game then centred around the two side searching for weaknesses in the defence, and occasionally a break was made only for a pass or a last ditch tackle saved the day.
On 20 mins one such break was made by Prop Jason Baraclough who put Winger Kyle Williamson into space and the try looked on, only for the Minety full back to make a try saving tackle just inside their 22.
During this play however, Frome lost Captain David Abrahams to an injury, which saw a shuffle In the backline with Full back Eley going to Fly Half.
Then just before half time, Frome gave away a penalty in front of their own posts, and Minety took the opportunity to take 3 points.

The second half continued as the first, with both defences getting on top of each other.
Frome were now attacking up the large slope.
Minety through everything at the Frome defence, but the visitors defended valiantly, with every player making tackle after tackle.
Hooker Matt King rallying and organising the Defenc around the break down and Centre Warnock making sure the backs kept up their end.
On 54 mins, Frome were awarded a penalty, which Eley stepped up and put through the posts.
On 78 mins with Minety awarded a scrum in an attacking position, Frome stole the ball against the head which seemed to take the wind out of Minety and Frome pushed up the field.
But with another twist in the tale, Minety were awarded a penalty on the half way line which they kicked into the corner. With one last play left Minety went for the catch and drive, but Frome were ready and countered the attack and were awarded a penalty which Matt King tapped and kicked the ball high off the pitch too the sound of the full time whistle.

Team Manager Andy Vince commented “This was always going to be a difficult match, but the team played out of their skins with one of the best defensive displays Ive seen. Never took a backward step. So proud of each and every one of them.”
Player Of The Match went to Hooker Matt King.
On Saturday the Frome RFC 2nd XV gave another tough test when they welcome Royal Wootton Bassett RFC 2nd XV to The Lane.
