Well the rugby season is over and thoughts naturally turn to the Summer break and a well earned rest.
But before that, the teams finished up the season on Friday evening at the Frome RFC Clubhouse where they welcomed Players, Staff, VPs and Sponsors for the annual end of season awards dinner.
We caught up with Director of Rugby, Garrie Webster on the evening who gave his review on the 2024/25 season.
“The season has literally been like a game of rugby in the sense that it was in 2 halves!
The first half was a struggle across all 3 teams with a genuine injury crisis. We managed to manage the players we had still fit, to be able to fulfill our fixtures across 3 leagues with players regularly playing out of position and at a higher level than normal.
The Christmas break brought about a welcome rest for some tired bodies and the players returned with a renewed vigor and determination.
We had a strong finish to the Season, rescuing a precarious position for the 1st team and 2nd team and as it stands, avoiding relegation.
We have seen an influx of young players that have come through our Junior Section and some making their 1st team debuts.
We have been able to get 10 of the very strong Academy squad their Senior debuts and 5 of them have gone on to make appearances for the 1st team which is a testament to the quality coming through our Mini and Junior section.
We await the RFU finalising the Leagues for next year to see who we'll be welcoming to the Lane and where we will be travelling to.
I'm very pleased to see Geoff Taylor remain as Club captain, Toby Reilly as 3rd team captain and welcome the new 2nd team Captain Ethan White. I want to say a big thank you the Phil Clarke who steps down as 2nd captain, he didn't get to play much 2s rugby last year, if any, thanks to being needed in the 1s and i very much appreciate his efforts.
The 3 team managers that work tirelessly every week, Trevor Osborne, Andy Vince and Simon bates have all agreed to stay on in their roles which I'm very happy about and look forward to working closely with them again next Season.
I'm looking forward to a little bit of downtime before getting right back into it all over again!”
