Now living in the ‘Land of the long White Cloud’ 🇳🇿 today we are #GettingToKnow former Frome RFC 1st XV player Peter Hooper.
| When was your first XV debut? It was the 03-04 season but not sure on who my first XV debut was against. My first senior game was for Pete Baileys 3rd XV away at Ivel Barbarians. It was that game that I realised that I was a decent player and wasn’t going to die playing senior rugby.
| What has been your best Frome RFC moment? There have been lots of special moments but the most special memories are of returning to the club after my many travels away, getting to see everyone’s smiling faces and sharing a beer or two with a great family at the club.
Special mention also goes to my current club here in New Zealand when we won the North Canterbury Divison 2 competition a couple of seasons ago!
| What Netflix show do you binge Or favourite TV show? Ozark and the Last Dance of late but the Tiger King was a standout during lockdown.
| What food is your guilty pleasure? Pizza and Chocolate but there’s no guilt involved!
| What is your prematch song? AC/DC - Highway To Hell.
| What advice would you give someone getting into rugby union? Get along to training and try and work on what your not good at. Enjoy the beers and social you won’t regret it until you wake up on Sunday morning.
| Which player, past or present would you most like to play with? There’s so many but a few standouts would be Garrie Webster, Mark Regler and the old speckled hen himself Pete Bailey.
| What hobby would you like to take up? Moto-X.
| Who is the funniest Frome RFC teammate? James Milton always had some amazing one liners and Aaron Blaney’s terrible chat was full of laughs.
| What sport would you play if you weren’t a rugby player? Snowboarding and surfing are my two passions.
| Favourite film? Snatch and Talledega Nights.
| How are you staying fit during isolation? We’ve been out of our lockdown in NZ for a while now but it was daily walks/runs or surfing at quiet beaches away from all the nosey Karen’s!!
| Who’s your sporting hero? Snowboarder Nicolas Muller, it’s not really a sport but making snowboarding look that good is very inspiring.
| Do you have any prematch rituals or superstitions? Tape on both wrists and left thumb. Kick 5 or 6 goals out in front before team warm up and before kick off rub some dirt between both palms.
|What advice do you have for people during lockdown? Try not to get lost in everything you read on the internet, it’s mostly bullshit. Smile and be good to each other.
