Today we catch up with Mark ‘Reggie’ Regler and ask his #GettingToKnow questions...
| When was your first XV debut? In 1988 against Midsomer Norton RFC.
| What has been your best Frome RFC moment? Despite relegation (and rupturing my Achilles), playing for the 1st XV at level 6 and when I thought I would not play 1st XV again, winning the Bath Combination Vase in 2014 with the squad.
| What’s your favourite TV show? MasterChef and Only Fools and Horses.
| What food is your guilty pleasure? Cheese, all types.
| What is your prematch song? Can I play with madness – Iron Maiden.
| What advice would you give someone getting into rugby union? Play for as long as your body can take it. For the young guns, listen to the coaches, they make a difference to your game and maintain good levels of fitness, it really helps recovery and ability to play.
| Which player, past or present would you most like to play with? So many to choose from & not always great players but often great clubmen or socialites, but here is a flavour:
80’s – Gary Meldrum, Clive Gaynard, Damien Kelly
90’s – Mark Hills, Andrew Weston
00’s - Andy Plumridge, Mark Hills & Dan Castle
10’s – Gary Webster, James Milton.
| What hobby would you like to take up? I already do this and as often as I can, travelling & visiting commonwealth war graves, military sites of importance or interest etc..
| Who is the funniest Frome RFC teammate? Got to be Aaron Blaney, sometimes annoyingly though! Oh, and Joel Whalley is amusing too.
| What sport would you play if you weren’t a rugby player? Always been a bit of a sports billy, but it would be football and wish I could box better!!
| Favourite film? Zulu, the Blues Brothers and The Lord of the Rings.
| How are you staying fit during isolation? Long walks as part of my daily exercise. Use of weights and lots of sit ups in the front room.
| Who’s your sporting hero? Not got one, but I love teams that excel, albeit an World Cup Winning team or a Olympic Gold Medal team winner, but I am amazed by sport in general in how individuals excel, through dedication and total commitment.
| Do you have any prematch rituals or superstitions? Ear tape! Must be black.
| What advice do you have for people during lockdown? Just do it so we can get through this. It will be some much sweeter when we get together again. Keep fit, get into a routine and helps others where you can. Also cheer on the NHS, I have used them in the past for so many rugby injuries, now they have real things to do and save lives.
Tomorrow we catch up with Frome RFC Fly Half Simon Westlake...
