#GettingToKnow... Frome RFC’s Matt King 👑
| When was your First XV debut? 29th October 2011 away to Sherborne RFC. Came on at Outside Centre (in my days as a back).
| What has been your best Frome RFC moment? Has to be last seasons home Play Off Fixture. Despite the result it was great running out to so many people cheering us on. Also having my goddaughter and a life long friends son, Oliver as my mascots to run out with made it that extra special. A real tear jerking day.
| What Netflix show do you binge? Sons of anarchy.
| What food is your guilty pleasure? That’s a hard one for me. But would have to say pizza. Could eat that morning, noon and night.
| What is your prematch song? Five finger death punch- wrong side of heaven.
| What advice would you give someone getting into rugby union? Main thing I would say is to just enjoy it and commit fully to the playing, training and social. The more you put into it the more you’ll get out of it.
| Which player, past or present would you most like to play with? Tricky one this..... I’d have to say Matt Pearce would be the one. Having grown up with him and his brother Jim as next door neighbours, I’ve had the pleasure of playing with his Jim, the ultimate wish would to be able to play with them both together.
| What hobby would you like to take up? Horse riding. Having ridden a very special horse a few times and having a partner who’s life is filled with riding, it would be amazing to be able to go for a beach ride together.
| Who is the funniest Frome RFC teammate? This is a tricky, there’s so many. James Howard, Aaron Blaney and Will Button have to be right at the top of the list.
| What sport would you play if you weren’t a rugby player? Would be football.
| Favourite film? Top Gun or the lion king.
| How are you staying fit during isolation? Luckily I’m in the position of still being able to work. But runs, bike rides and some awful team challenges called Sally’s. She’s horrible - stay away!
| Who’s your sporting hero? It has to be Jonny Wilkinson. Having been a back and watching what he did during the World Cup was just amazing. His commitment and skill levels are what anyone should aim for.
| Do you have any prematch rituals or superstitions? Everything on the bottom half of the body has to be left leg/foot first. Also have to text my partner.
|What advice do you have for people during lockdown? Keep in touch with who ever you can. Especially if you have any elderly grandparents. They’ll be struggling not seeing you, a quick phone call will make there day.
Tomorrow we catch up with Frome RFC’s Phil Meenan.
