A Former 2nd XV Captain, Social Secretary and a Mini & Junior Coach, today we are #GettingToKnow Frome RFC’s Jon Witcombe...
| When was your first senior debut? It was for the 3rd XV under Pete Bailey in 2004/05 I think.
| What has been your best Frome RFC moment? I have a few, Captaining the 2nd XV for 2 years and bringing lots of new players through. Helping to revive a social scene with event nights and pub crawls. Setting up and running the first 2 7s tournaments with Dave Abraham's and Mike Rutt and Coaching several under 6s teams and planting the seed of rugby at the earliest age.
| What Netflix show do you binge? Everything that comes out really. After life, It's always Sunny, Stranger Thing's...
| What food is your guilty pleasure? Mexican Food!
| What is your prematch song? Biffy Clyro - When the Faction’s Fractioned.
| What advice would you give someone getting into rugby union? Go training - There is always something to learn/work on and ALWAYS buy a drink in the club you are in. It's how the club's stay open.
| Which player, past or present would you most like to play with? I have played with an amazing range of people but as a second row id love to play again with all my lock Partners from over the years to name a few: Jim Pearce, Simon Desborough, John Gillard, Dan Castle, Mark Regler, Darren Bowles, Gary Jamieson and occasionally Matt Pearce.
| What hobby would you like to take up? Is Sign Language a hobby?
| Who is the funniest Frome RFC teammate?
When Drunk... James Milton. But overall Jim Pearce.
| What sport would you play if you weren’t a rugby player? Basketball.
| Favourite film? There are you many to chose from but it's changes between Toy Story 2, Forrest Gump and Fight Club.
| How are you staying fit during isolation? Some DDP Yoga and the occasional run.
| Who’s your sporting hero? Not really one for Heroes but Sergio Parisse as a leader and player was always a favourite.
| Do you have any prematch rituals or superstitions? I keep pretty quiet when changing. Before I leave my house I tap my body parts to check I have the right kit (i.e. tap shins for socks, hips for Shorts and head for scrum cap).
| What advice do you have for people during lockdown? Keep reaching out to friends, make that call when you think of someone no matter how long it's been. Don't stress about what you see other people doing... We are all in the same boat. Get drunk on Zoom/Houseparty/However you face time.
