Today we are #GettingToKnow Frome RFC’s Roger Gilson, a gent who has played throughout the age groups and senior ranks, has numerous roles at Club and nowadays you’ll find in the middle of the pitch with the whistle.

| When was your first XV debut? Late 90s away against Taunton in the Somerset Cup, I only went to watch, I had taken Tony Holdaway down and we had visited a Cider farm enroute !! Somebody got injured in the warm up so I was drafted onto the bench and ended up playing most of the game.

| What has been your best Frome RFC moment? On the pitch it was probably the 3 seasons that I Captained both the 2nd and 3rd XVs, amazing times both on and off the pitch.

Most recently organising the players reunion dinners, great to see all the old boys back up at the club enjoying themselves.

| What Netflix show do you binge? Not much on Netflix but love Bosch on Amazon Prime.

| What food is your guilty pleasure? Crisps.

| What is your prematch song? Saturn 5 - Inspiral Carpets.

| What advice would you give someone getting into rugby union? Get involved both on and off the pitch, the friendships you make last a lifetime.

| Which player, past or present would you most like to play with? Would loved to have played more rugby with a quite a few people especially Keith Norris, Garrie Webster and Phil Meenan who all tended to be in the First team during the majority of my playing days.

| What hobby would you like to take up? I’m rubbish at DIY, so would like to improve my skills in this area.

| Who is the funniest Frome RFC teammate? James Howard can always be guaranteed to make me smile.

| What sport would you play if you weren’t a rugby player? Cricket.

| Favourite film? The Great Escape.

| How are you staying fit during isolation?
Regular walks in the evening.

| Who’s your sporting hero? Ian Botham and Gazza.

| Do you have any prematch rituals or superstitions? Playing - always wore my socks down.

Refereeing - Won’t put on my match shirt till the last possible moment.

| What advice do you have for people during lockdown? Keep in touch with friends and try to find a bit of me time when you can.
