Thank you to everyone who took part, played and volunteered at the year’s Annual Clive Lewis Tag Rugby Schools Festival.

Frome RFC School Liaison, Paul Lovatt has the below roundup.

School Years 3 & 4

Well one thing was for sure they certainly knew where the Try line was! 101 trys scored from 16 games so lots of attacking rugby.

Pool A - Beckington School came top of the pool scoring 18 trys & winning four games, but were closely followed by Trinity Tigers & Berkley Barbarians, winning two games each & both scoring fourteen trys. Trinity Lions scored 9 trys & Crockerton bagged seven.

POOL B - Berkley Bears came top of this Poll scoring fifteen trys with Trinity Lions coming second scoring eleven trys. Only a try separated the other contenders as Mells scored 6 trys to St Johns 7 with St Johns beating Mells by a score of four to three in their game. Most trys scored in games totalled eight by both teams

Years 5 & 6

Yrs 3 & 4 played four more games but Yrs 5 & 6 also scored at a high rate notching up 90 trys in total over a dozen games.

Pool A - There were some high scoring matches with combined scores of ten & twelve trys. Oakfield Giants scored sixteen trys to top Pool A although Selwood Signets only lost to them by a try to come second scoring a total of ten trys, Selwood Sirens & Horningsham both scored nine trys apiece with Horningsham scoring six of theirs in the Sirens game

POOL B - Crockerton topped this pool with thirteen trys although some strange results as Oakfield Athletic registered their only win by a difference of four trys against the table toppers. The Minster came second scoring twelve trys only beating the Athletic by a score. This was a pool of some close encounters with The Minster just clinching second place on try difference as they drew with Selwood Swans who clocked up eleven trys. Only three trys separated the top & bottom teams!

It remains for me to thank you all for your participation, the time spent encouraging your pupils to play rugby & the support this provides for Frome Rugby Club.

This year we had the strongest numbers i can recall from Frome College providing ten sports leaders to referee the games; So thank you very much to Mr Dominic Jones (PE Teacher at Frome College & also our Club' s head Coach) for organising those youngsters to ensure the afternoons proceedings ran smoothly & efficiently.

It was good of Rowan Walton to help out with organising the games too. Trevor Osborne accurately & meticulously recorded all of the results of the games & his wife Claire voluntarily served the refreshments for which we are most grateful to them both.

Clubs like ours are shaped by volunteers giving freely of their time to enable Community Rugby Clubs like ours to flourish.
